A sprain is an osteo-tendon problem affecting any joint of the body, such as the wrist, knee, ankles, neck, spine and any joints with protruding bones, caused by a sudden, unexpected or violent unnatural movement, such as in the case of whiplash, which temporarily changes the structure and physiological and anatomical limits of the joint itself.

Sprains often occur in sports activities and while driving, but may also occur in the workplace and in everyday life. The symptoms following a sprain can include immediate pain, fluid build-up, swelling, a sensation of heat, bruising, muscle contracture, accumulation of fluid in the joint and temporary paralysis of the affected joint.

The various sections of the sprained joint, including the joint’s cap, ligaments, tendons, cartilage and muscles, may be damaged in various ways, and more or less severely.
